Renee Yam

Christian Sexologist, Therapist, Speaker, Author, Educator

"I believe our sexuality is holistic, and I'm passionate about helping people understand the whole story of sex. I believe sex is more than just a physical act, a performance and instant satisfaction. It's a connection to our emotional, mental and spiritual being. It can be about building intimacy, trust, respect and honour in relationships. It can be a part of who we are that we value, embrace, care for and live out in confidence and in freedom."

"Each relationship has the potential to enrich our lives, to give our lives purpose and deep meaning. That is because we have an innate wiring for connection. We are designed for relationship." - RENEE YAM

About Me.

I am a sexual health educator and a registered counsellor specializing in relationships and sexual health. I am compassionate, empathetic, strength-based and solutions focused.  I love educating and equipping people on healthy sex and relationships.

I work with people from all different backgrounds, religions, ages and demographics. I have a Christian faith and can work from a Christian-based values approach for individuals or couples seeking this counselling framework. I believe each person has intrinsic value and I desire to draw out people's strengths and potential within them.

I have been working for the last 17 years in a range of different capacities including ministry, leadership and pastoral counselling in church settings, community-based programs, delivering presentations and workshops to adult colleges, and church conferences, teach as an academic for adult university for undergraduate and master's level students and providing professional counselling to adult individuals and couples around sexual health, relationships and personal development in my private counselling practice. I am the author of 'Sex Awakened' a resource for engaged and newlywed couples, and I am working on my second book for single and dating couples.

I love learning, and my sex and relationships book collection is constantly growing. I love having professional supervision as I learn so much about myself, and it challenges me to grow personally.

I am influenced by the work of Patricia Weerakoon, John and Julie Gottman, Sue Johnson, Terry Real, Esther Perel and Brene Brown.

Other things I love to do is have chats over coffee, run and get active, be near water, cuddle my puppies, snuggle up on the couch to watch movies with my family and chase sunsets (I am constantly blown away by God’s creation and how He uniquely paints the sky every day!).
